A prescription, often abbreviated ℞ as Rx, is a formal communication from a physician or other registered healthcare professional to a pharmacist, authorizing them to dispense a specific prescription drug for a specific patient. Historically, it was a physician’s instruction to an apothecary listing the materials to be compounded into a treatment—the symbol ℞ (a capital letter R, crossed to indicate abbreviation) comes from the first word of a medieval prescription, Latin recipes (lit. ’take thou’), that gave the list of the materials to be compounded.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University vice-chancellor Professor M Sharfuddin Ahmed made a visit to the university’s genome sequencing lab in the basic science building on the campus on Saturday, said a press release.

The lab is conducting the genome sequencing of coronavirus samples collected from 300 Covid patients to determine the degree of the prevalence of different coronavirus variants in the country.

During his visit, Sharfuddin was accompanied by basic science and paraclinical science faculty dean Professor Khandakar Manzare Shamim and anatomy department chairman Professor Layla Anzuman Banu, among others.
