After passing the 9th BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) entered into Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Dated 21-01-1991. Now she is working as a Professor, Genetics and Molecular Biology and Chairman, the Department of Anatomy, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Dhaka, Bangladesh.
She is also working as an Adjunct Faculty, Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) and Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC).

As a career medical professional and teacher she is now working as Prof. Genetics and Molecular Biology and Chairman in the Department of Anatomy at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

In addition to her current responsibility, she also established a Genome Research Laboratory at Department of Anatomy, BSMMU funded by World Bank and GOV. of Bangladesh.

She has a PhD and MS degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, as well as Master of Medical Education (MMEd), Master of Philosophy (MPhil in Anatomy) and Bachelor MBBS Degree. She organized and represented numerous international meetings and international conferences related to a medical professional.

She participated in several Global Good Ethical and Legal Issues of human genomics Programmers, Senior lead researchers. She was syndicate member Rajshahi Medical University. She is the member secretary of Initiative for establishing a Biobank at BSMMU in Science summit at UNGA77.

She heads a research Project on Integrated Health Research Project of Ministry of Health of GOV. of Bangladesh, Gut microbiome Project of Ministry of Education of Bangladesh and successfully performed a numbers of whole genome sequencing of SARS-CoV-2. In corona Genome Sequencing Project of BSMMU. She is regional advisory board member of South Asia Region of British Medical Journal.

Dr Laila’s research interests include cancer genomics, cardiogenetics and genetic counseling.
